Wet Room Installation Newent: The Benefits of Modern, Accessible Bathroom Design
Updated: Jun 30
Wet rooms have become one of the most popular bathroom upgrades in recent years - and it’s easy to see why. Combining sleek modern design with practical accessibility, wet rooms offer a stylish, flexible solution for homeowners looking to improve their space.
At B & B Services Ltd, we specialise in wet room installation in Newent and surrounding areas, creating bathrooms that are both functional and built to suit individual needs.
Whether you’re planning a luxury bathroom upgrade or need a specialist accessible solution, a wet room can be a smart long-term investment.
Why Wet Room Installation Is Growing in Popularity
Unlike traditional bathrooms, wet rooms remove the need for bulky shower trays or enclosed cubicles. Instead, the entire room is waterproofed, creating an open-plan shower space that feels larger, cleaner, and more modern.
The benefits include:
✔ Easier access for all ages and mobility levels
✔ A clean, contemporary appearance
✔ Better use of space in smaller bathrooms
✔ Easier cleaning and maintenance
✔ Increased property appeal and resale value
For many homeowners, wet rooms offer both practicality and style in one smart design.
Accessibility: A Key Benefit of Wet Rooms
One of the biggest advantages of wet rooms is accessibility.
For people with mobility needs, wet rooms remove physical barriers like steps, shower trays, or tight enclosures. This makes showering safer and easier.
At B & B Services Ltd, we’ve recently completed one of our first specialist shower safety system installations, designed specifically to support a customer with epilepsy.
Following a post-inspection alongside the DFGO, this innovative bathroom adaptation included a specialist sensor system developed by B & B Services that monitors the user’s position within the shower area.
If the user moves outside of a designated safe zone - such as during a seizure or collapse - the shower automatically shuts off, significantly reducing the risk of injury.
This project highlights how wet rooms can be adapted far beyond standard design to meet complex and specific customer needs.
How to Create a Successful Wet Room
A wet room may look simple, but getting it right requires careful planning and skilled installation.
Here are the most important factors:
1. Proper Waterproofing
Waterproofing (or tanking) is essential. Floors and walls must be fully sealed to prevent leaks and moisture damage.
Without proper waterproofing, even a small issue can cause major structural problems later.
2. Effective Drainage Solutions
Drainage is one of the most important parts of any wet room.
The floor needs to be laid at the correct gradient to direct water efficiently towards the drain.
Popular options include:
Linear drains for a sleek, modern look
Central drains for simpler layouts
Hidden drainage channels for minimalist designs
Good drainage ensures the space stays practical and easy to maintain.
3. Choosing Suitable Materials
Wet rooms need durable, water-resistant materials.
Popular choices include:
Non-slip vinyl flooring
Porcelain tiles
Waterproof wall panels
Anti-mould sealants
Moisture-resistant plasterboard
These materials help ensure safety, durability, and easy cleaning.
Is a Wet Room Right for Your Home?
Wet rooms are ideal for:
Homeowners wanting a modern bathroom upgrade
Families planning for future accessibility
Smaller bathrooms needing better space efficiency
Anyone wanting easier cleaning and maintenance
With the right design and installation, a wet room can completely transform how your bathroom looks and works.
